I used to be selfish person and thought "what has life got to give me?" Looking back, I am glad i've left that period behind me. Now i adopt a different outlook and think, what can I offer to others? Because without giving, how can we take? I don't want to waste away my life and not making a difference in someone's life. It's my self-fulfilling prophecy.
I had two death news this week. One week. Two lives. Both accidental. And both meant so much to their families. It breaks my heart to know what the family had to go through. But, I know the Almighty loves them more. Such news bring anyone to ground zero. It jolts us back to reality and make us think. We're alive and they aren't. What are we doing with our lives? Times like this, I get so angry at people who cut themselves, suicidal, and especially those who waste their lives away. But yes, these people must have some background (e.g. sexually abused, death of a loved one, financially deprived etc.) as to why they're living a melancholic life. Therefore I won't judge.
Life, in every essence, is fragile and precious. No humans live eternally. You either make or break your life. Anybody can push you and pressure you to work hard or to do something out of your life. Ultimately, it's your choice. You have a life and you can make changes. The terminally ill don't have much time to live, but they're making the most of it. Least, they're trying. They don't quit. Which sometimes makes me annoyed at the bad choice of words by some people; "he/she succumbed to cancer" or whatever sickness they had. It's as if these people didn't fight for their lives. They probably did. But it was their call to go home.
Sometimes when things do not go the way we want it to go, we say life's unfair. When we've given it our best shot to fight for that number one spot only to have it awarded to someone else who didn't work as hard as us, we say life's unfair. When we think we've gone through enough of misery and sorrow, we say life's unfair. When we think we're carrying the weight of the world and not having an ounce of help from god, we say life's unfair.
But if we're to step out of our shoes and view it from the shoes of someone who's had it worse, we might learn that we didn't have it bad after all. Everyone will have their fair share of obstacles in life. May God grant us better insight and strength to overcome them. If we fall, just have to get up and try again. I think there is a quote that goes something like "You don't lose by trying, you lose by giving up". Having good friends help. Mine pinch me back to reality when I soar too high and forget to come down.
There's a silver lining ahead, persevere.
